ThyssenKrupp Steel and Stainless USA, LLC, is committed to the development of a $3.7 billion state-of-the-art carbon and stainless steel manufacturing and processing facility in the United States.
ThyssenKrupp Steel and Stainless USA, LLC, is a wholly owned subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp USA, Inc., of Troy, Michigan. The company was created to oversee the development of the new facility, which is a cooperative effort of ThyssenKrupp Steel and ThyssenKrupp Stainless, both based in Duisburg, Germany. The advanced technology plant will be built on a site in Mobile and Southern Washington counties in Alabama.
The North American market, particularly the United States, is characterized by a strong demand for high quality flat steel products. ThyssenKrupp aims to achieve a North American market share of five percent.
The new U.S. plant will be a cornerstone of the company’s NAFTA strategy and an integral part of its overall global market strategy. The new facility will include a hot strip mill which will be used primarily to process slabs from the company’s new steel mill in Brazil. It will also feature cold rolling and hot-dip coating capacity for high-quality end products of flat carbon steel. The facility will have an annual capacity of 4.1 million metric tons of carbon steel end products. In addition, a stainless steel melt shop will be built with annual capacity of up to one million metric tons of slabs in the first phase.
