ThyssenKrupp is one of the world's largest technology companies. The Group is headquartered in Düsseldorf, Germany with operations in more than 70 countries, nearly 188,000 employees and sales of approximately €47 billion (US$61 billion) in fiscal 2005/06.

The Group consists of five business segments: Steel, Stainless, Technologies, Elevator and Services, with emphasis on product manufacturing, systems solutions and innovative services. ThyssenKrupp was formed in 1999 through the merger of Thyssen and Krupp.

ThyssenKrupp Steel

Steel is the number one industrial material worldwide. ThyssenKrupp Steel is focused on high value added flat carbon steel and is one of the leading producers in the world market, ranking second in Europe. With sales of approximately €10.7 billion (US$14 billion) and over 30,000 employees, the Steel segment serves customers in 80 countries.

ThyssenKrupp Steel is the Group’s biggest single operating company. At its central location in Duisburg, Germany, it operates an integrated steel mill with high-performance iron and steelmaking, processing and finishing plants. In addition, rolling mills and coated lines are located at five other production sites in Germany. The product portfolio includes hot strip, cold strip, coated products and heavy plate as well as intelligent material solutions, capabilities include specific processing and a wide range of services.

Subsidiaries produce, for example, tailored blanks, tinplate, electrical steel, medium-wide strip and construction elements. In North America the company is represented by steel service and tailored blanks activities.

Flat carbon steel products are used in a wide range of applications such as car bodies, facades, construction, packaging and domestic appliances.

ThyssenKrupp Stainless

Since the reorganization of ThyssenKrupp’s steel activities at the start of the 2005/2006 fiscal year, ThyssenKrupp Stainless has been an independent segment within the ThyssenKrupp Group. It is one of the world’s leading suppliers of stainless steel, nickel alloys and titanium. This segment, with production facilities in Europe, Asia and the NAFTA region, has more than 12,000 employees and sales of €6.4 billion (US$8.3 billion).

ThyssenKrupp Stainless operating companies include German-based ThyssenKrupp Nirosta, Italy’s ThyssenKrupp Acciai Speciali Terni, ThyssenKrupp Mexinox in Mexico, Shanghai Krupp Stainless in the People’s Republic of China and ThyssenKrupp VDM, a producer of nickel materials with plants in Germany and the U.S. ThyssenKrupp Stainless International is responsible for all stainless sales, distribution and service activities of the Stainless group where these are not directly handled by operating companies.

Stainless steel is used in the automotive, aerospace, architectural, food, medical and environmental sectors. In addition to its technical properties such as corrosion resistance and high strength, this high performance material offers the added benefit of better appearance.

ThyssenKrupp Technologies

ThyssenKrupp Technologies is an international manufacturer of high-tech plants, components and machinery as well as a renowned automotive supplier. The segment employs 68,500 people and generates sales of approximately €14 billion (US$18.3 billion). It occupies strong market positions worldwide with innovative products for body, chassis and powertrain applications in cars and trucks, high-quality machinery and plant construction, systems engineering and shipbuilding.

ThyssenKrupp Elevator

ThyssenKrupp Elevator is the world’s third largest elevator company. It employs 36,200 people in more than 60 countries and generates sales of approximately €4.3 billion (US$5.6 billion). This award-winning segment is engaged in the manufacture, installation, maintenance and modernization of elevators, escalators, moving walks, passenger boarding bridges, and accessibility products (stair and platform lifts) for customers around the world.

ThyssenKrupp Elevator is the only elevator producer which offers the full range of passenger transportation systems and consequently enjoys great success particularly for airport projects.

ThyssenKrupp Services

ThyssenKrupp Services stands for high-quality process and supply services. The segment employs approximately 40,000 people in 60 countries and generates sales of approximately €14.2 billion (US$18.6 billion).

The range of services includes maintenance and repair, in-plant logistics as well as technical services for the erection and maintenance of plant and facilities. In addition, the segment is one of the leading international suppliers of stainless steel, nonferrous metals and plastics.
