Site Selection Process
Proposed New Plant Layout
ThyssenKrupp began its search in February 2006 for the best possible location to build its new steel and stainless steel manufacturing facility. The process began in February 2006 with 67 potential sites in 20 states. From the initial sites, ThyssenKrupp confined its search to locations in three states: Alabama, Arkansas and Louisiana. In February 2007, the company announced that it narrowed its search to two states, Alabama and Louisiana.
Many factors were considered during the selection process. ThyssenKrupp examined all aspects of the potential sites, including, but not limited to, access to transportation, fuel and utility costs, the ability to recruit employees, the potential economic and fiscal impact on the surrounding region and business incentive programs available through state and local governments.
Public officials in both Louisiana and Alabama were extraordinarily cooperative and responsive as the company conducted its review and analysis. ThyssenKrupp appreciates both Alabama and Louisiana for providing an environment which fostered this complex due diligence and investigative process.
On May 11, 2007 ThyssenKrupp Supervisory Board announced their decision to select the site in Alabama. Congratulations Alabama!
The decision to select Alabama was made based on the criteria the company has been using in the site selection process. Decisive factors included logistical considerations of the company’s supply chain from Brazil to our projected customers; operating costs such as electricity and labor; and site specific capital expenditures.
ThyssenKrupp applauds Louisiana for its time, hard work, commitment and dedication to the selection project and its collective efforts in creating a welcoming business environment for our investment was remarkable. These efforts, led by Governor Blanco and her local and state teams, are greatly appreciated by ThyssenKrupp.
